According to experts in the tire industry, millions of Americans are rolling tires with inadequate pressure. These motorists are not aware that their safety is at risk, or how the air pressure of their tires affects the fuel efficiency of the car, the maneuverability of the vehicle and the lifespan of the tires. Many drivers never check the air pressure in their tires, despite it being a simple task that takes no more than two to three minutes.

According to the Department of Energy, USA, a tire inflated just two pounds below recommended pressure, results in an increase of one percent in fuel consumption. When you multiply four tires for several pounds, this could easily increase gasoline consumption by ten percent or more. For many drivers, this would end up costing them a few hundred dollars per annum in gasoline bills.
You should inflate your tires according to the pressure recommended by the vehicle manufacturer which is usually written down on the sides of the door or in the manual for your car. If there is a range, always use the highest level of pressure psi indicated.
